Repeating and Regretting
Being popular and making fun of many people can have many consequences. At the same time you feel powerful and bigger than everyone else. In the story "Before I fall" Samantha had popular best friends and they ruled the school with her. She did all those things like making people feel small and then she had to make things right when she got punished for it. Teens who ever regretted making someone feel small or bad about themselves can relate to Samantha's situation. This story shows that it takes something tragic to happen in order for people to realize their mistakes and wrong doings. Samantha and her friends turn silent when they find out the person they were bullying committed suicide. they feel scared because they know it was their fault. They see how what they did was really wrong after the tragedy occured. It must be very devastating to see how your actions and verbal words impacted someone else horrible or even their life.
The consequences for your actions can make you want to change the past and what you did wrong. Samantha keeps repeating her day after the car crash until she realizes she has to make things right to continue her day. She notices many things like her best friend wasn't who she thought she was. Every "repeating day" is like a piece for her puzzle and she has to complete this puzzle to move on. She becomes a better person after this punishment.
Some people can hold you back from experiencing the real world. Samantha finds many things in common with people who she's been ignoring or making fun of because of her fight with Lindsay. She was always afraid her best friend Lindsay will judge her for talking to certain people. They might seem to be "losers" or "lower class" people for Lindsay. There's always going to be someone you're scvared of and don't even know it. That person can even be someone very close to you and someone you always trusted.
I recommend "Before I Fall" for all teenagers. This story shows how you can always look back at your mistakes and change or improve on them in the future. You can also learn new things about people you love. Samantha was just a normal popular girl and she never knew that she would have to repeat a day six times until she makes it better. She learned a lot from this and she became a better person. Many teens can become better people and learn a lot from this book without having their day repeated.
